About the Institute of Broadcast Sound
The IBS was founded in 1977 by sound balancers in
radio and television, who felt a need for a better interchange of ideas between
practitioners in the various areas of broadcast audio.
It is run by the Executive Committee and the Secretariat
see IBS Staff and Directors
The IBS has become an important forum for all audio professionals working within
broadcasting in production and post production.
During the past few years, as the industry has faced enormous change, the profile
of the membership has expanded to include the many freelance engineers and others
working in independent companies.
Discussion between members in our increasingly fragmented industry is further
enabled through our internet mailing list IBSNET , which provides an invaluable
resource for keeping in touch from where ever you are.
The IBS is also active in leading industry initiatives, such as the File Exchange
Initiative, from which the iXML open standard was born.
Fellowship of the Institute may be awarded at the discretion of the Executive
Committee following nominations from members (including existing Fellows)
