and is available in several categories:

Full Member (MIBS)
In a fragmenting industry, the Institute's rigorous criteria for full membership
are becoming increasingly valuable as a seal of competence and professionalism.
To qualify for Full membership, applicants have to show that they hold, or have
held, a position with full responsibility for the sound output for broadcast
productions, including planning and post-production work where appropriate.
Associate (AMIBS) and Student Membership
Open to all sound staff with current experience in broadcasting. At least five
years broadcast experience is required for Associate membership. Those with
less experience are encouraged to join as Student members and benefit form the
training aspects of the Institute.
Affiliate (AIBS) and Student Affiliate
These are special categories open to those who would not otherwise be eligible
for membership. An Affiliate will typically be engaged at a senior level in
manufacturing, research or training, or in some other activity closely connected
with broadcasting.
The category of Student Affiliate is available to those
undergoing full or part time education whose studies, activities or interests
are closely associated with broadcasting.
